It is such a joy to be back on Substack, pausing my account felt very meta in that at the time I was writing a lot about the sacrifices we need to make to finish writing a book - the things we have to give up and miss out on to make the time. One of those things for me was building this community and it felt so counter-intuitive to walk away from something that was growing and that I was enjoying so much.
But writing a novel is a little like falling in love with someone who keeps breaking your heart – it’s exhilarating, all-consuming but also maddening, exhausting and occasionally soul-crushing. But I did it.
One of the central reasons for starting this newsletter was to give more people access to the publishing industry and how it really ticks, and to help motivate and encourage people with their own writing, whether your goal is creative health or finishing your own novel, and that’s something I’m going to be talking about a lot on my book tour next week.
So if you've been waiting for a sign to take your writing seriously – this is it.
I’ll be sharing everything I’ve learned (the messy, unfiltered truth about how books really get made) and I’d love to see you there. Come for the book, stay for the honesty – and leave with your creative fuse reignited.

People have said some very nice things about the book
And a recent review in Harper’s BAZZAR:
'A psychologically charged novel, Selfish Girls is at once a suspenseful thriller and a subtle portrait of domestic interactions, with a healthy dose of humour and hope offsetting its darker moments'
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE
